The seven nominees for the Rachel Carson Graduation Prize 2025 have been announced. This award, organized by the VVM—an association of environmental professionals—and several environmental study groups, recognizes outstanding theses in the fields of environment and sustainability. The aim is to increase awareness of students’ research contributions.
The prize includes two categories: master theses from academic institutions and graduation projects from higher professional education (HBO). Winners in each category receive a sculpture, a monetary reward, and the opportunity to publish their thesis in the journal “Milieu.”
The two graduates from ESSET are:
Ashley Harding – Site selection for the relocation of Porites cylindrica with the goal of coral restoration at Blue Bay Marine Park, Mauritius.
Chimi Steinvoort – Wildfires: Analyzing environmental indicators and remote sensing proxies of post-fire thaw depths, along with insights from the DPSIR framework.
The nominees will present their findings at a celebratory event on May 20 at the VVM office in Utrecht. After a brief five-minute presentations, they will engage in discussions with VVM members specializing in their areas of research. The winners will be announced on May 23 during the “Groene Peper” event for sustainable education at The Hague University of Applied Sciences.
