Sustainability is not only a relevant theme within our environmental science programme, but also for Avans University of Applied Sciences as a whole. One of the main ingredients of Avans’s sustainability efforts is the Mission Zero strategy. With the Mission Zero Avans aims for a fully circular business – this covers topics from catering services to energy, from transport to waste.
One recent example towards realising Mission Zero are the organic waste bins that will be introduced in 2023. Right now there are already separate waste bins for paper, plastics, cups and general waste. Starting from 2023, Avans will further introduce bins for organic waste (e.g. food waste). This is an important waste stream which can be transported in useful products such as compost or biogas.
